Who’s Who in a Real Estate Transaction

Buying or selling real estate involves a lengthy transaction with many people involved. Here’s a brief rundown of who’s who:

Seller – Current owner of the property being sold

Seller’s Agent – Real estate agent working on behalf of the seller (also referred to as the “listing agent”)

Seller’s Attorney – Lawyer hired by the seller to represent them in this transaction

Seller’s Lender – If the seller still owes on the property, their lender will be paid at the time of closing

Buyer – Purchasing the property from the seller

Buyer’s Agent – Real estate agent working on behalf of the buyer 

Buyer’s Attorney – Lawyer hired by the buyer to represent them in this transaction

Buyer’s Lender – Finances the purchase of the property for the buyer

Home Inspector – A licensed professional hired by the buyer to perform a thorough home inspection

Appraiser – A licensed professional hired by the buyer’s lender to assess the value of the property

Title Company – A neutral third party that provides a title report and takes any necessary corrective action to ensure a clean title
